VIGATA – The name
It is an imaginary small Sicilian town created by Andrea Camilleri one of Italy’s most famous contemporary writers.
Salvo Montalbano, a food-loving inspector also created by Andrea Camilleri and based in vigata, has garnered millions of fans worldwide. The inspector is a genius at deciphering the most enigmatic of crimes between meals of typical Sicilian & Italian specialities that are well documented in Camilleri’s books translated into nine languages and shown as a series on RAI, Italian National TV.
